Shimizu Minato Matsuri 2016

This weekend is the 69th annual Port Festival, which commemorates the reopening of the port to international trade. I attended the Minato Kappore So-Odori with two people from my  work Friday night.  Both speak English, but the music was so loud we didn't get to talk much. This street dance event lasts two evenings and is danced by 20,000 dancers! There is a competition, but I don't know how it works. There are traditional dances, as well as Flamenco, Reggae, and original dances like "Minato Kappore."  I wish I belonged to a group that danced.  Maybe next year...

My own photos were not good - too dark, too many people in front of me, etc. These two photos were from the festival site.

Festivals with high beat music and plenty of dancing is a great way to cope with the summer heat!

I am amazed at the number of dancers participating. I think Japan must celebrate ever event that ever happened in the past. That's pretty cool to think about.
