Doctor Blake Mysteries

I watch programs in English on Youtube and like when I can find a series that I can follow.  My most recent find is the Doctor Blake Mysteries.  It is set in the late 1950's in Australia and is about Doctor Lucien Blake who takes over his late father's general medical practice and role as the police doctor after being gone from his home town for about thirty years.  He is a bit mysterious about his own past as he solves the murder mysteries in his town.

I am currently watching the second season and I think there are five seasons. Does anyone else watch this series?  Are there any mystery series you can recommend for when I finish this one?

I watch it and enjoy it very much. I'd recommend Foyle's War to you. It is set in WWII Britain, but focuses on police work at home during the war. Very good.

We watch this series too, it is filmed in Ballarat about an hour and a half up the country from here. I like Foyles War too.

Dr Blake is indeed a good program, you might like Death in Paradise, set in the Caribbean with a British chief inspector sent there to work. ...good to watch in the Winter months when we can all use some warmth and sunshine.

I don't know if you can watch these on YouTube, but my favourite crime mysteries are Frost and Midsomer Murders. The first is very realistic but not too bloody or horried, the second is full of beautiful English gardens and charming villages.

Funny to see this! Yes, Dr Blake was filmed in my neighbourhood. Although I watched it, I can't say I thought it was very good. But the end of the last series I think the writers had run out of ideas. They showed a movie-length final a couple of weeks ago, and it was so forgettable I couldn't remember who the culprit was 5 minutes later. Then a few days later I was with some quilting friends who were discussing it, and everyone who hadn't fallen asleep before the end had different ideas about "who done it".

Apparently a different network is going to make another series. I hope they hire some better writers.

I enjoyed watching this series. A similar one is Father Brown set in 1950-60 rural England. I have also enjoyed watching your progress on your projects. As an ex-pat American, are you having turkey today?

I like murder mysteries, but I don't think any of the ones I watched are on Youtube. Dr Blake sounds like fun, maybe I'll check that one out!
