Peace Memorial Hall, Okinawa

Peace Memorial Park in Itoman, Okinawa is the location of the World War II battle field that has been transformed into a beautiful park with many features, including the butterfly garden I posted about a few weeks ago.

After passing by the information center at the entrance to the park, look up a tall set of stairs to see the Peace Memorial Hall. Outside the tower is the bell of peace and the bronze boy, which a memorial to honor the students who died during the war.

Inside the tower is a museum of artwork/paintings and an auditorium.

This was our first time visiting this park and I think it is worth visiting a second time. If you want to go, here are directions by bus:

Take bus number 89 from Naha Bus Terminal to Itoman Terminal (60 minutes, 580 yen, departures every 10 minutes), transfer to bus number 82 and get off at Heiwakinendo Iriguchi (20 minutes, 470 yen, departures every 1-2 hours).
