Work in Progress Wednesday - Cross Stitch and Redwork

I've continued working on the house and I think it is looking better all the time.

I pulled out this redwork piece that I started last year with the stitch group and worked on it a bit more.

I found these two little flower blocks when I was looking for something else and I'm thinking about making them into something.  I made them in a class at the Paducah Quilt show about twenty years ago, but I can't remember what the original project was.  These two orphans didn't have any additional fabrics or instructions with them.  Maybe I'll have something to show in the future with them.

Hachijo Jima Ozato Tamaishi Wall

One morning, on the advice of Eiko-ba, I walked to the Ozato Tamaishi Wall.  It took about an hour and a half and I came across many interesting things along the way. First, there was a little roadside park.

I had to walk through this little tunnel (both going and coming back).  It was a little scary, maybe dangerous, when a car drove through.  I tried to get as close to the wall as I could.

On the other side was a nice lookout area.

This is what the tunnel looked like from the other side.

There was a second tunnel, but it had a sidewalk so it wasn't as scary.

I saw this on the side of the road and had to walk inside to investigate.

At last, the wall area!

The whole area has these round stones making up the walls. If you look at the stones straight on, you can see hexagons. I can, anyway. Very interesting area.

I couldn't help taking a picture of this - it's the close, closed thing, you know.

Hachijo Jima Plants and Animals

Plants

This is a very lush island, with many different kinds of plants.  It's probably a jungle in the summer time.

Daikon and ashitaba were served at every meal and I saw them growing and drying.

There is some kind of glow in the dark mushroom farm on the island. I didn't investigate.

This is a new year decoration, not a plant, but it was growing in the past, so I put the photo here.

Even though it was winter, there were many flowers growing.

Animals

I heard many birds when I was out walking, but I didn't see them. I saw this statue of some kind of creature and I saw one goat and some stray cats.

It was all very interesting!
