Japan loves its mascots. As I've written before, every area, town, city, and prefecture has a mascot. Each year there is a grand prix national contest to determine the most popular. This year, Kaparu (center in the photo), representing the city of Shiki in Saitama Prefecture won. The runner up was Jabo (right), from Omuta, Fukuoka Prefecture. Third place went to Konyudon-kun from Yokkaichi, Mie Prefecture. Don't ask me what this is all about!
After all these years in Japan I still don't understand the craze for these characters! I agree, some of them are charming, but the whole idea is childish to me. Will I ever become a Japanese?
I like Jabo best. The next town over from me is Elkhart. Of Course their mascot is an Elk. Town Logos are big around here right now. I am wondering what your young craft group members think of these little characters and why they appeal to them. xx, Carol
Well they are kind of cute 😆
ReplyDeleteLol Pamela it looks like a lot of fun.
ReplyDeleteIt is just so Japanese. Cute but also weird!
ReplyDeleteThey remind me of some christmas tree ornaments our Japanese friends gave us eons ago!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting.

I think it adds fun distraction.
ReplyDeleteI need some of that around here, sometimes things get way too serious.
I get it :)
Cute, I think I would have picked the middle one too.
ReplyDeleteAw, I really like the Kappa! The left one is a little creepy-looking, though...
