I’ve
never had to piece batting so I wasn’t sure how to do it. I didn’t want it to
overlap or be bunched, so I laid the pieces side by side and taped them along
the seam. I used a herringbone stitch to
join them and removed the tape as I stitched along.
I
pieced the backing with this blue fabric, along with a small amount of blue cat
print.
I
pressed the fabric the best I could with the steam iron. (In the US, I liked Magic Sizing for ironing,
but that product isn’t available in Japan.)
I carefully laid out the fabric, the batting, and the quilt top, and
taped the layers to the floor.
After
basting in all directions, I folded up the edges and pinned them. Yes, this took all day. Let the quilting begin!

this is beautiful! I cannot wait to see this one finished...will the turned edges be the binding as well on this quilt or is that just for the quilting? Hope you are having fun quilting this.
ReplyDeleteThanks! The turned edges are just to keep it back while I quilt. I'm going to put a row of hexagons on the back along the edges to finish it off.
DeleteWell done. Are your knees and back sore?
ReplyDeleteAmazing, love it
ReplyDeleteOh! what a journey. It's looking great!
ReplyDeleteThis is so pretty, but you must be sore!
ReplyDeleteSo lovely! Worth the pain.

ReplyDeletewow, this really is a completely by-hand quilt! Pieced by hand, batting pieced by hand, basted by hand! amazing...
