Giri-choko (obligation chocolate) is the name
for chocolate given to co-workers, bosses, and other men. Honmei-choko is the chocolate you give to the one you love.
Ted is
quite fond of chocolate and capable of buying his own, but since we are in
Japan and it is Valentine’s Day, this is his honmei-choko from me. (Don’t tell him that I raided his change jar
in order to buy it!)
Ted
received this box of chocolates from one of my
English students.
How fun! I like the Japanese holidays, colorful and good natured.
ReplyDeleteIf you are a woman, living in Japan, and one who loves chocolate, you should marry a handsome and attractive man who does not care for chocolates. He will be given lots of gifts, homei-choco and as well as giri-choco that YOU can gobble up! The trouble is of course, when White Day comes, you have to give a lot of gifts back...
ReplyDeleteHappy Valentine, dear Pamela and Ted.
I'll make a chocolate cake for the whole family to share, and then gobble up my hubby's gifts!
Haha, how nice that he got chocolates from one of your English students! :)
