The
paper census form looks like this!
Being
unable to read it, we opted for the online form in English. There were about 12 questions, asking our
names, ages, address, what type of housing we have, whether we are employed. I can’t remember what else, but it was very
short. The preliminary results of the census are scheduled to be
released in February 2016 followed by detailed results by the end of October
2016.
By law everyone residing in Japan has to answer the questions, but there are many people who try to 'hide' or refuse to answer because it is 'invading their privacy'. The census takers (the officials who hand out the forms) are having a tough time, and the result will of course not be 100% accurate.
ReplyDeleteI never thought about other countries requiring a census. I remember when I was little, they used to come to our door to take a count. Now we get the forms in the mail. I don't guess they can keep track if the forms are returned or not.
