In Japan, the 60th birthday, known as Kanreki, is a very big deal. You can read more about it here, if you are interested. Ted was in Tokyo for a conference and some friends there hosted a birthday party for him.
We celebrate birthdays for a month, not just a day, so Ted is having a very big Kanreki.
Oh wow! So I should celebrate my 60th birthday all of July?! Not sure I could handle it...but sure sounds (and looks) like fun.
