After visiting the Toro Ruins in the morning and eating a delicious lunch, we drove up the Nihondaria Parkway. We took the Nihondaira Ropeway across to the Toshogu Shrine area.
This shrine is dedicated to the famous leader Tokugawa Ieyasu (1543 -1616) who brought a long period of civil wars to an end, uniting Japan. There are 13 buildings at this site and the Japanese government has designated it as a National Important Cultural Property. Yes, there are many steps.
After taking the ropeway back, we looked out over Suruga Bay.
My apartment is in this photo. To the right of the main road in the photo, near the big colorful buildings is where I live. The big silver looking buildings to the left of the road are part of the company where I work.
In additon to the far away views, we also saw a snake and some beautiful flowers close up.
It was a nice day and I appreciate being asked to join the trip.
There is a lot of beauty in Japan and a lot of preserved history. It seems pretty amazing that it is all so well preserved all these years and through all the weather catastrophes. xx, Carol
