Wa-Quilt Show at the Hotel Gajoen Tokyo - Part 1

I attended this show a while back, but took so many pictures that it has taken a long time to go through them! The venue was a gorgeous hotel with the quilts in beautifully decorated banquet rooms along a 100 step staircase.  The floors were tatami, so no shoes! It was difficult to take pictures because the lighting was low and there were many people, but I managed the best I could.

From the internet:

Patchwork quilts meet Japan at this exhibition at the Hotel Gajoen Tokyo. The tradition of quilting and patchwork is said to have been born in Europe and matured in the US, but Japan apparently has a good three million quilt lovers too. For this edition, the theme is 'Japan-modern', with a eclectic yet beautiful collection of Japan-inspired quilts made by famous writers and competition winners on display, plus some public faves.

Here is the first set of quilt photos.

I'll post more photos from this show in a couple of days. You can also see Queenie's post about this show here.

  1. WOW! You managed to take a lot of photos. I just took a few; there were so many people in the way.
I didn't see the back of the 'round paper window' quilt. I think it is as beautiful on the back as on the front.

  3. Wow, there's some beautiful work there.

I'm particularly fascinated by the one with the orange spiral done with irregular pentagons. I've used that shape in one of my quilts, but I haven't seen many other quilts using it.

  7. Sorry I have missed that show. Were the names of the quilters posted in English? The Yokohama quilt festival did a good job and I am hoping Tokyo dome will one day get the hint and put all information in English ... after all, they plug it as an international event!
