The Camino de Santiago, or the Way of St. James, is a series of pilgrimages which end at the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela where the remains of St. James are said to be buried. During the Middle Ages the Way of St. James was one of the most important Christian pilgrimages.
There are many routes, since people came from many areas. I chose the Portuguese Coastal Route for my Camino, starting in Porto, Portugal.
I plan to post photos chronologically, but not necessarily a day at a time.
I arrived in Porto the day before beginning my Camino,so I could have an afternoon to explore a little. Blue is my favorite color and I admired the blue tile I saw everywhere. This is the train station of St. Bento.
Come back tomorrow and I'll have more photos from my afternoon in Porto!
It will be good to follow your route through Portugal. We are near a couple of routes here in France - the closest goes through Perigueux and there is another further west going through Pons and we hear so much about the route from St Jean Pied de Port across the north of Spain. Good luck and I hope you have better weather than we have at the moment. xx
I know a lot of people from all over Europe hike to Santiago, but for some reason I never thought about people going there from Portugal, so from the South instead of the North. What an exciting adventure!
The tiles are stunning. I'm looking forward to walking your route through your photos. A pilgrimage has been shown on TV in a series of programmes with celebrities making the journey.
Oh how wonderful ! I Always wanted to make that pilgrimage. Wishing you the best in this beautiful adventure !
