The Castle was closed, but the castle grounds were open. I visited the castle itself in 2012. Nijo Castle was originally built in 1603. It was donated to the City of Kyoto in 1939 and desginated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1994.
A pleasant but unexpected surprise was sake served in a souvenir wooden sake cup.
It was a beautiful and interesting place to visit.
Japanese women in kimonos always looks so elegant. Nice souvenir - but I don't know that I could drink out of a square cup. Do you drink from the corner? Otherwise I would be pouring the drink down myself.
this is really beautiful. I still have my wooden sake cup from Japan. I think it's interesting, drinking from them. What a delightful way to spend New Year's Day!
The wooden cup was a really lovely souvenir to keep.

ReplyDeleteHow nice to have some sake in this beautiful place!
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful, and those cups are really cute - they'd also make great planters for little plants.
