I saw this interesting little place when I was going to the police station last week. It looks like an island, but it's not. It's a long skinny penninsula. Maybe people fish here? It's pretty long, maybe people come here to take a walk. It's a mystery.
I searched the internet, but came up with no explanation. When you look at a map, the Tomoe River and others in Shimizu have these long 'tongues' of man made land in the river. I can think of two explanations. Either they were made to lead the flow of water into the city or out of it. Another possibility is that they were part of a labyrinth of waterways to confuse invaders. If there is or have been a castle nearby, these canals and land areas could be a system of defence, misleading the enemy and trapping them... Whatever, they are now pleasant areas for walking obviously.
Maybe boats came there? Would be nice to walk along.

Intriguing! It does look like a lovely spot for a walk.
ReplyDeleteI love how you are still finding new mysteries in your area!
ReplyDeletePerhaps those steps were for boarding a small ferry along the river. Walking along would be lovely, peaceful and very cool in the heat of Summer.
