Jiun-ji Temple

This is a tidy Buddhist temple with some large scary statues.

Each of these small statues have some little snacks that look like animal crackers.

  1. Those statues don't look very welcoming, do they?

  2. Your photographs look different, did you get a new camera?
I agree the temple looks very tidy, and the statues scary.

  3. I can't remember now, but there is a meaning to those statues and they are often found to the left and right of temple gates, The one on the left with an open mouth and the one on the right closed. Sometimes there are temple dogs instead and the same mouth position.

  4. The small sculpture is “jizo”.The jizo
in the photo is “mizuko-jizo”.It mainly serves to comfort the soul of an
    unborn baby.

It seems that people can gather at this
    temple and hold a funeral.

Maybe the big and scary sculptures act
    as talisman?
    (So,have a scary face.)
