The National Police Agency reports the number of crimes in 2021 decreased by 7.5% from the year before to 568,148, setting a new post war record for the seventh consecutive year.
Criminal offenses peaked in 2002 and have decreased steadily since then. Street crime and burglaries decreased the last two years during the pandemic as people were staying home more. Fraud cases, especially with the elderly have increased.
The overall arrest rate for criminal offenses was 46.6%, but for major crimes, including murder and robbery, it was 93.4%. The chart looks like murder arrests is 100% or very close to that. How amazing is that? Bicycle thieves are not apprehended much, it appears.
What do you think about crime where you live? Do you feel like police are doing their jobs well, or are they overworked?
Pamela: The crime rate here in the US is horrible, shootings are up over 100% here in Minnesota, they are shooting willy nilly and hitting young children as young as five years old. I wish that the crime rate would drop dramatically, the officials want to just slap hands and put criminals back on the street. You are lucky the crime rates are dropping. Law Enforcement are doing their job, but the courts are horrible.
This is so interesting. Our overall US crime rate is pretty bad and it depends on where you live. In Lansing it isn't too bad compared to larger cities but we have our baddies, too. I'm impressed with your stats.
If you are here in the US you would be surprised at the differing opinions on whether law enforcement is doing their job or take advantage of their authority. This could lead to another rant, lol.
The largest city that we are near is Bakersfield in Kern County. Every single night there is a shooting in Bakersfield and a large percent of them are police shootings. It has been cited by the Feds as having more police shootings than any other city in the country. Not to confuse you, by police shootings I am referring to citizens that are shot by police. Most are fatal. Honestly the South Side of Chicago ain't got nuthin' on Bakersfield.
We are quite a distance from it and safe on our mountain. But here, a closed and locked gate mean stay out.
On the other hand, I am happy you live in a much safer area. xx, Carol

Phone scam (oreore sagi) targeting old people has been increasing.
ReplyDeleteThat's impressive! I wonder what was going on in 2002?
ReplyDeleteI haven't seen current statistics for Germany, but at the most part I feel quite safe here.
