This museum is nearby the Zakimi Castle Ruins. Previously known as the Yomitan Village Museum of History and Folklore, it reopened as the Yuntanza Museum in 2018. The first floor has the Zakimi Castle Ruins exhibit, as well as the local cultural heritage exhibits, the second floor has exhibits on archeology, folklore, nature, and the Battle of Okinawa. The entry fee is 500 yen.
Outside the museum there are two interesting exhibits - the sugar cane press and the cremation urns.
This castle ruins exhibit had a hands on building bit. I looked but didn't touch.
The museum was clean and bright and empty.
This room was an exhibit of the art of school children.
Funny looking cow "revolving" around the sugarcane press!
ReplyDeleteOkinawa is very famous for weaving and dyeing fibres with plants and mud, but what about embroidery. Is there anything similar to Kogin?
ReplyDeleteThanks for your good guidance. I am very much interested in the Okinawa culture.
ReplyDeleteHi Pamela: Wow that looks like a very interesting place, I love that there is a children's section.
ReplyDeleteThat is an interesting sugar cane press.

After all Okinawa is also unique in urns. Saw it for first time.
ReplyDeleteI think the shape of the grave was also unique.
That little outfit was cute. The sugar cane press was interesting too, as was the model.
ReplyDeleteSounds like an interesting museum. I love the hands on part and wow, those are some pretty urns.
