I like word play in any language. The "TH" sound in English is difficult for Japanese speakers of English because that sound doesn't happen in Japanese. March 9th (3/9) is San Kyu, or Thank You!
Hi Pamela: Sweet design, thank-you for posting. Some people who speak English in America have a problem with th. I know many people who say ca for car, it makes me chuckle sometimes.
The idea of a "Thank you" day is quite nice, even if it is only because of a bi-lingual pun.
I'm from a part of the world that speaks non-rhotic English. The person who commented above about "ca" as a laughable pronunciation of "car" better never come here or their head might explode.
Yes, the Japanese take every opportunity to play with words. It is sometimes hard for us foreigners to follow.
ReplyDeleteI also practice.

I just relayed this to Steffi, who also loves clever word play, and she says san kyu!
ReplyDeleteYour teaching will lead the students to get the correct English pronunciations and give them lots of chances to enjoy different cultures.
