Japan's Oldest Person

115 year old Tomiko Itooka, Ashiya, Hyogo Prefecture, became the oldest person in Japan following the recent death of the 116 year old previous holder of the title. Ms. Itooka was born on May 23, 1908 and now lives in a nursing home in Ashiya.

She celebrates her birthday every year. This year, Ashiya Mayor Ryosuke Takashima, the youngest elected mayor in Japanese history at the age of 26, came to congratulate her.

According to her nursing home, she has not yet been informed of the honor because she has the flu, but she will be told as soon as she recovers. Congratulations!

  2. Ms Itooka looks considerably younger and fitter than many of the other record holders I have seen over the years.
Congratulations and many happy returns of the day.
