The original Hommaru Palace was completed in 1615 and used as the administrative offices and residences of the first feudal lord of Owari. It was recognized as a masterpiece of Edo Era (1603-1867) castle palace construction. The palace and much of the castle were destroyed in wartime air raids of 1945. Using Edo Era plans and historical records, the palace restoration was authentically completed in 2018.
Before entering the palace, visitors get instructions on what to do and not do inside the palace, which is full of national treasures.
There is no additional fee to visit the palace, after paying the 500 yen entrance fee to the castle grounds.
