Hachijo Jima Plants and Animals
Plants
This is a very lush island, with many different kinds of plants. It's probably a jungle in the summer time.
Daikon and ashitaba were served at every meal and I saw them growing and drying.
There is some kind of glow in the dark mushroom farm on the island. I didn't investigate.
This is a new year decoration, not a plant, but it was growing in the past, so I put the photo here.
Even though it was winter, there were many flowers growing.
Animals
I heard many birds when I was out walking, but I didn't see them. I saw this statue of some kind of creature and I saw one goat and some stray cats.
It was all very interesting!
The goat in the picture reminds me that I'm fond of goat milk and goat yoghurt. However, goat products are more expensive than cow dairy producs (at least in my country).
ReplyDeleteI haven't heard of ashitaba before. Interesting - apparently it is native to that area.
ReplyDeleteI would definitely have wanted to see the glow-in-the-dark mushrooms.
Glow in the Dark mushrooms?? that sounds a bit sci fi??
ReplyDeleteI loved daikon and you don't see it over here very often. Interesting to see how it grows/.
ReplyDeleteLooks like the spring bulbs are out already.
ReplyDeleteIsn't it amazing that this is part of Tokyo?!!! Well, it is under the government of Tokyo but far from the mainland.
ReplyDeleteNot a lot of animals, but such pretty plants!
