Happy Halloween!

The last day of October.  Really? So far, this is the strangest year ever.

Halloween isn't a big holiday in Japan, but in recent years it has been catching on and becoming Japan's version of it. I haven't heard anything about it this year, but I'd guess it's not going to be the big celebration in Tokyo because of the pandemic.  From what I've read in the US news, trick or treating has been cancelled there too.

I have good memories of Halloween as a child. We roamed the streets in our costumes, without adult supervision, and collected big bags of candy and treats. At school there were parties in the classroom with cupcakes made by someone's mother. At the girl scout meeting, we bobbed for apples and ate more cupcakes and sweets. Were those the "good ole days"?  Too much sugar!

Happy Halloween!

  1. Halloween was not something we grew up with in NZ, but it seems to be growing here in Aus.

  2. The only way I have ever celebrated Halloween is by making pumpkin soup. It will be no problem following this tradition this year, but I agree, it is the strangest Halloween ever. You look cute in your panda suit.

  3. Halloween isn't something I grew up with. My only exposure to it has been since the days of the internet, seeing lots of creepy things associated with Halloween, none of which appeal to me. Reading about your memories of happy childhood experiences makes the concept more understandable. That does sound like it would have been fun!

  4. Happy Halloween to you!
We've had fun seeing the littlest grand muffins in their costumes, a little pumpkin, a pink dinosaur.
Then the costume parade at the local park with their little friends, precious.

  6. Just as Japan, Germany is only recently adopting a bit of Halloween. It's still not celebrated a lot, though - I never once went Trick or Treating as a kid, and as an adult, I had Trick or Treaters come to my door maybe twice so far! Not this year, though.
