Shuzen-ji Temple

Near the Bamboo Path, is Shuzen-ji Temple, established in 807. It is famous for being the site where Minamoto no Yoritomo’s younger brother Noriyori and son Yoriie, the second shogun of the Kamakura era were confined and killed. The official name of this temple is Fukuchizan Shuzen Bannan Zen-ji Temple.

This is the grave of Minamoto no Noriyori and is a short distance from the temple. Minamoto no Noriyori was the younger brother of Minamoto no Yoritomo.
