I don’t
miss it! Christmas isn’t a holiday in
Japan and for the most part isn’t celebrated.
There’s no Black Friday or Cyber Monday; no hectic shopping and over
spending; no pressure to make the perfect holiday foods or to over indulge at
multiple Christmas parties; no Santas ringing bells outside of shopping malls;
no energy wasting light up decorations attached to every house, no lying to children and encouraging them
to lie back in order to receive more toys.
None of that is what Christmas is really about, but more and more it
seems like all Christmas is about is the commercialism and greed and over
indulgence. I’m happy to be where we can
celebrate the season with our own simple traditions. Just another reason I feel so fortunate and thankful to be here!
