Travel Delays

Ted is teaching a “Nature Watching” class with five students enrolled.  The class consists of a ten day trip to North Carolina, USA and the itinerary is packed with visits to national forests and outdoor recreation areas. This is the first trip out of Japan for all five of the students. They were scheduled to leave Hokkaido early yesterday morning for Tokyo, then on to the US later in the day. I said goodbye to Ted and three of the students at the train station. In order to get to the airport in time for their flight, they had to leave on the 5:55 am train.  The other two students live closer to the airport so they all met there.

Unfortunately, the trip has been delayed due to Typhoon Man-Yi. After getting to the airport here in Hokkaido, they found out flights in and out of Narita (Tokyo) were cancelled due to the typhoon, which made landfall yesterday morning in Toyohashi, Aichi Prefecture.  Keep your fingers crossed that they are able to leave today!

Man-yi, the 18th typhoon this season, is causing flooding and wind damage as it heads northeast across Japan.

Lucky students to get such a trip as part of their study but unlucky to coincide with the typhoon. Hope you are safe and well.

I hope you did not suffer as badly as they did in Kyoto, Fukui and Shiga prefectures, when the typhoon eventually came your way. Tokyo was spared real damage, but boy the house and street is clean from the 'power hose' and 'power fan'. There wasn't a speck of dust anywhere this morning, the air crystal clear.
Now I keep my fingers crossed the trip will not be delayed any longer.
