Too Too Hot

Kumagawa, Saitama

This summer it is just too hot for too long! Yesterday, Japan's highest ever temperature of 41.1 C was recorded in Kumagawa, Saitama Prefecture, near Tokyo.  Japan's previous high temperature  of 41.0 C was in August 2013 in Shimanto, Kochi Prefecture.

What the heck is going on? It's only July, with all of August ahead of us. This horrible heatwave has been going on for weeks and taken the lives of over 40 people in Japan. Tens of thousands of people have gone to hospitals. Last week a six year old elementary school student died after collapsing from the heat. The news reports tell of many elderly people who have collapsed or died from the heat, (although I take issue with including sixty year olds in the "elderly" group).

How about where you live, how hot is it?

This is the hottest weather I have ever experienced in my near 40 years of living in Japan. It is indeed way too hot, and I shudder at what the weather will be like in August.

I am in UK at the moment and it is exceptionally hot here too. Very dry with brown grass everywhere. xx

40.3 would have been purple in my year quilt. Fortunately I had only 2 purple days in the whole year. You have my sympathy. I hate any temperature over body heat!

Unfortunately as the world is getting hotter, there will be more unbearably hot days in all our futures.

Seems to be a super hot Northern summer this year, very sad to hear of people dying. We are in winter so is cooler here, today we have had howling wind and rain, about 14 deg C I think.

Hot all over the world. We've been having a hot summer or were, but the past week has cooled off and we are finally getting some needed rain. Only in the 80s now (F) and cooler mornings.

I wondered about you temps when you posted your last temp quilt update. Yes!! Our weather in northern Indiana and across the USA is sultry. Right now we are having August Dog Days which have been going on since JUNE. I am living in a tropical jungle and I only have to look at the weeds in my back yard for confirmation.

Oh my, oh my, 40°C is definitely too hot. We are expecting a heat wave here in the south of Germany but I live in the mountains and it's rarely over 30°C here. Fortunately!!

Oh gosh, 41.1 is terrible!
Cooling down here now, it’s 26°C. I believe yesterday it was 33.3°, and there have been fires here in the U.K. because of the heat. Hope it cools down soon.

It's not quite as hot here (yet), but we've been scratching at 35°C, and early August tends to be the worst...I don't like it.
