Is This Only In Japan?

Apparently, this is the sixth in a series of "One Pounders" at Burger King in Japan. This is the first one I've read about.

The buns have four types of cheese baked into them, in addition to six slices of strong cheddar cheese between the layers. There are four quarter pound 100% beef patties, fresh onion, ketchup and mustard, and pickles. The sandwich weighs approximately 502 grams, and has 1,399 kcalories. The cost for the sandwich alone is 2,040 yen or 2,340 for the "setto" with fries and a drink. It is available for a limited time only.

What I want to know is who eats these sandwiches? Really.

Only those people who already are, or want to become, sick!
I can not imagine who in Burger King Japan thought up such a Burger. Or is this an 'Only in Japan' item that the HQ in the US has thought up? I mean, is the business strategy that foreign tourists, used to eating large portions in their home country, e.g. the US, travel to Japan just in order to eat this? A pilgrimage to the 'Ultimate Burger'? I know there are people who want to visit Japan just to buy/eat wasabi Kit Kat or drink Coca-Cola from a can decorated with cherry blossom print.

I have not heard of one pounders. Sounds awful!

I will never eat such a big, hearty and expensive hamburger. But it is true such hamburgers are popular.
I don't know when, but the number of Japanese people who love cheese is increasing.
Burger King is a chain store, but specialty stores that serve burgers like this are also increasing. And it seems to be thriving.
I'm sure those people would add more cheese to the burger in the photo, even if they had to pay for It.😨

Young men will no doubt want to try it—at least here in the US they would. They tend to believe they are invincible and not subject to heart problems 20 years later. Or, like my brother, never considering they might have 19 polyps removed from their colon. ( He was lucky, let’s say). I know how people get excited by these gimmicks in the US, but I just don’t see that happening in Japan. Is that right? But, in any case, I am a vegetarian and won’t be trying it myself.

I love a good burger, and sometimes even one from Burger King - but the meat-to-anything-else ratio on this thing would be way off!
