Kokura Castle Japanese Garden

The Kokura Castle Gardens opened in 1998 on the site of the former residence and garden of an Edo Era feudal lord.

Even in December, the garden is beautiful. It is designed for all four seasons.

After removing your shoes, you can walk around on the wooden walkway and look into the rooms of the replicated fuedal lord’s home.

This is an interesting garden. As the pond is set low, you always look down onto its surface and can enjoy the reflection of the castle, trees, stone lanterns, and bridges.
I had to look up (no pun intended!) the kanji for Ukimi and see that it means float. On the pond surface, there are a lot of fallen leaves floating, so it is an apt name.
Wouldn't the study hall be a good place to have an embroidery or quilting exhibition and lectures?
I love Japanese architecture and landscape gardens.
