Work in Progress Wednesday - Sonoko's Finished!

Here she is – a two sided doll ornament.  I finished the edges with twisted cording I made from two colors of DMC floss.

She sat unfinished for years, but it only took a couple of weeks to finish her.  How many more projects do I have that that I’m stuck on and probably just need a little more to finish?

WIPW - Getting Unstuck

Sonoko was originally a guild project with the Raleigh ANG chapter. She comes from the November/December 1989 issue of Needlepoint Plus magazine. I worked on her after coming to Japan, but couldn’t seem to finish her.  The directions call for finishing her into her own doll shape, which seemed a little too fiddly for my finishing skills. I thought about making her into an oval shape instead, but even that seemed difficult, so there she sat (for a long time). I was close to being finished, but I was just stuck.

I wasn’t sure what stitch to use in the background, so I consulted my friend and expert needleworker, Rhoda.  She suggested using either the t-stitch or the Alicia Lace for a light background.  I liked both, but decided on the t-stitch. I didn’t want to use a color that would compete with Sonoko, so I chose to use one strand of DMC rayon thread in a shiny gray color (30712). The shine doesn’t show up in the photographs I took, but it does look nice when you see it. I changed my mind about the oval and will make it into a rectangle a little smaller than seven inches by three inches.

 

I really want to work on this until I can finish it!

Work In Progress Wednesday - Sonoko

I have more projects than I’d like to admit that just need a little more to finish. I get close to finishing, then I get stuck with something and put it down.  This is the case with Sonoko. I'm stuck.  She was a needlepoint guild project before I moved to Japan.  I didn’t get much done before I left, but picked her up again two years ago.  Here’s what I think was my last post about her. Sad to have so little to do and not finish, I know.

So anyway, this week, I worked on her ribbon obi.  I’m not so happy with how it looks, but I would really like to finish her soon!  Maybe in the new year.
