Rare Turtle at iZoo in Shizuoka

There are some strange animals in this world.  A rare horned turtle is now on display at iZoo, a facility showcasing reptiles and amphibians in Kawazu, Shizoka Prefecture. This female Chinese pond turtle was found by a man fishing in Fuji last summer.  It is believed to be about 10 years old, has a 16 cm shell and weighs 670 grams. The horns are about 1 cm in length.  I think it is a little creepy, but I might want to go and see it in person.  After coronavirus, when I feel safe to get on the train, that is. What about you - would you want to see it in person?

Only if there is a sheet of glass between us - and not for virus protection or social distancing.

It is a bit sad actually to think that something/someone is creepy just because the looks are unpleasant. Maybe this poor turtle is lost, lonely and homesick for China. Maybe this 'pet' is the gentlest creature on earth, but the owner tossed him out after getting fed up with his looks.

It is a bit creepy-looking. Presumably the horns are some sort of deformity. I wonder if they interfere with its eyesight?

How interesting! I think it's very creepy and more than a little frightening but also fascinating. Can't say I'd like to pick it up but I wouldn't mind seeing it at a safe distance!

Wow, I've never seen one like this before! Are the horns covering its eyes? It looks a little uncomfortable...
