Crime in Japan - Man Threatens Employee and Tries to Steal a Coke

A 73 year old man in Ishinomaki, Miyagi Prefecture was arrested for allegedly threatening an employee at a pachinko parlor with a knife and attempting to steal a Coke. (Pachinko is a kind of legal gambling in Japan). The man left without harming the employee or getting the drink.  Police identified the man with security camera footage.  When the police found and arrested the man, he told them he doesn't remember anything.

Recently, there was another strange incident where a woman tried to steal ice cream treats. What strange crimes!

Now those are odd thefts!

'I don't remember anything' can mean two things. 1) It is true - you don't remember anything, because you are suffering from dementia and memory loss. 2)It is a lie - a convenient phrase and excuse to avoid taking responsibility for your actions.
So which applies to this man? My bet is on 1)!

Strange thigs to steal, maybe they both have mental health issues and don't really remember or understand what they have done.

It seems like he acted without tinkering about what happened next.

I recently saw an episode of a crime show where a woman was constantly craving drink after a type of stroke, and eventually attacked another woman about her order at a coffee shop. I don't think this was the case here but stories like this and the ice cream thief make me wonder!
