Hina Ornaments

I have long been fascinated by the Hina Ornaments made by Queenie Patch and shown on her blog Queenie's Needlework.  In the hospital dayroom were two wall hangings, so I took a few photos. I'm especially fond of the hexagon turtle.  I like the idea of starting a mobile and making a few ornaments every year.  I know, I should get started soon.  March will be here before I know it!

I love these mobiles. Since this is Japanese, I guess each ornament has a meaning?

These beutiful ornaments are indeed charming. Whenever I see something I haven't yet made I want to find out how it was made and then get started.
Most of them have meanings, related to girls' growth and happiness. I haven't checked, but guess the turtle is for wishing one's daughter a long and healthy life.
I make three new ornaments in the beginning of the year and then display the mobile from the first 'good luck day' (tai an) (for 2017 it is Feb 1st) of February until March 3rd, Girls Day.
If you want the pattern for the turtle, let me know.

I love mobiles and these are pretty cool, especially since each ornament has a meaning. Of course, if you made one, each of YOUR ornaments would have some meaning to you, I'm sure.
xx, Carol
