International Court of Justice President


The International Court of Justice, the United Nations’ top court in the Hague, Netherlands, elected Japanese judge Yuji Iwasawa, as its new president. Iwasawa is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law, holds an LLB from University of Tokyo Faculty of Law and an LLM from Harvard Law School. He has been a member of the International Court of Justice since 2018.  Before that he was a professor of international law at the University of Tokyo and chairperson of the United Nations Human Rights Committee. He has written or contributed to 10 books in Japanese and five others in English dealing with international law and organizations.

An honour for Japan. What powers will he actually have? There are so many international injustices.
