Yugawara - Fukusenji Temple

I followed the map from Gosho Shrine to where I thought was the entrance to Fukusenji. I was across the river from the entrance and had to walk down to a bridge, then back again!

There are always stairs at shrines and temples, but this one also had a ramp walkway, making it easier for people with mobility challenges.

This ceramic Buddha was originally enshrined in Nagoya Castle. After World War II, it was dedicated to Fukusenji Temple. Legend has it that the lord of Nagoya Castle, Mitsutomo Tokugawa, had the statue built to morn his deceased mother. The statue was complete when it was in Nagoya, including everything from the chest down. The whereabouts of the body is a mystery today.

Interesting place!
