Naritasan Shinsho-ji Temple

Naritasan Shinsho-ji Temple is a large temple complex in Narita City, Chiba, near Narita Airport. It was built in the year 940 and its main sacred object of worship is a statue of the Buddhist Fudo Myoo diety.

It was a rainy day when I visited, but it was still very nice. I would like to visit again and spend more time walking around.

Oh my goodness, so much beauty everywhere you turn. I like the dragon sculpture and how the underside of the roof is painted in patterns.

In one sense, you were lucky to visit on a rainy day - fewer people around. At the New Year and other important days, the crowds are enormous!
Those crowds bring in funds, which means the temple complex is very well kept. There is indeed much to see.
Have you ever attended a 'goma' ritual at a Shingon temple (Kojasan, Naritasan, Kawasaki Daishi....) where fire, large drums and powerful chantings are the main features?

Waouh, such a great place, very impressive. Thanks for sharing. I agree with Terra that painted roof is amazing, of course you'll need to go back in a sunny day and have more time to visit. xxx

Even in the rain, this temple looks majestic. That painted roof is a beauty!
