Okinawa -Gesahi Bay Mangrove Forest, Yambaru National Park

Staying with my outdoor, uncrowded vacation plan, the next place to visit was Gesashi Bay in Yambaru National Park. This is the largest mangrove forest in Okinawa, covering about 10 hectares. Three of four types of mangrove plants can be seen here. This area was recognized as a nation treasure by the Ryukyu Kingdom in 1959, and by the government of Japan in 1972.

The sign boards are in Japanese, but there are plenty of pictures.

Okinawa - Oura Mangrove Forest Nature Facility

The walk through this mangrove forest is about 1.4 km out and back. The boardwalk is wide and there are many signboards in Japanese with information about the life forms. The walkways are well built and sturdy.

This is a mystery - a Christmas photo left on the railing mid-way through.

Japanese White Eye -  Is this cute or what?

This is a calm quiet place to visit.
