Tanabata Festival

Last weekend, my town held its annual Tanabata Festival from Thursday to Sunday.  I attended on Sunday.  There were many colorful paper decorations lining the streets, wishes hung from bamboo branches, festival food was available in abundance (I did eat a soft ice cream while I was there), and there were many people taking it all in. It was a great way to spend a Sunday afternoon.

Beautiful, colourful and great fun. Olympic mood and lots of well known characters, like Chibi Maruko (last picture) and the rakugo Shoten members (first picture).
Are the pom-poms made of coloured tissue paper?
