Work In Progress Wednesday - Scrappy Cats
This week I started hand quilting my scrappy cats quilt. I finished the top several years ago and it has been on my "hope to finish" list since then.
Started 2015 |
My plan is to work on it until it is too hot to hold on my lap. We'll see how much I get done before then. It's a fairly small quilt.

Convenience Store Magazines
Japanese convenience stores sell many things, including magazines. The magazine area is usually at the back of the store, near the restrooms. You can almost always see men looking at the magazines in the store. It seems no one buys magazines and takes them home to read them. Even if I could read Japanese, I wouldn't buy a convenience store magazine that has been touched by countless other people.

Some of these magazines are "adult" magazines. The three largest convenience store chains, Seven-Eleven, Lawsons, and Family Mart, have decided to stop selling adult themed magazines by the end of August. The Ministop chain has already stopped selling the adult magazines. The reason? They want to improve their image with foreigners ahead of the Rugby World Cup this fall and the Tokyo Olympics next year.
So, does this mean the stores didn't care about their image with Japanese citizens, but are concerned about foreign visitors? What about where you live - are adult magazines sold at convenience stores? Are the store chains concerned about foreign tourists?

More Hardanger with the Stitch Group
Yesterday our stitch group met and continued working on our hardanger projects. I love these afternoons stitching with my friends!
After we finish our hardanger projects, maybe next month, we will begin an assissi project.

Tokyo International Quilt Festival - Three Popular Qulters Exhibit and Educational TV Quilts
Somehow, I only saw two of the three in the "Three Popular Quilters Arrive in Japan" Exhibit.
The third quilter was Cécile Franconie from France. Sorry, no photos.
We walked through the NHK Educational TV Character Quilts area. It wasn't so interesting for me, so I only took a few photos there.

Smalls Stitch A Long 2019 - February
This month I've stitched a heart ornament. The pattern was a freebie from lacontesselepointdecroix.blogspot.com. I used the same kimono fabric as last month's ornament for the backing.
This Stitch A Long is hosted by Mary of Mary's Thread.

Tokyo International Quilt Festival - Teacher Quilts
I think this is the Professional Category of Quilts.
The next two photos are the same quilt - front and back.
I love all the details on this one.
You know how I like hexagons.
Another favorite of mine.
