Kakegawa Kachouen

Kakegawa Kachouen was another student recommendation. It is located about 15 minutes walk from the Kakegawa Station. It is an aviary and a flower park. It is family oriented and wheelchair accessible.  The indoor area is airconditioned and there is a restaurant area and some gift shops.  The entry is 1200 yen for adults.

The first area has many kinds of owls behind glass.  They were interesting to look at, but hard to photograph because of the reflections.

I was surprised to see penguins, but they are birds.

The greenhouse is also where the restaurant area is located.

The next area has tethered birds.

There are doors between the areas and many hand washing stations.

The next "room" has a gorgeous water lily pond and many colorful birds. Throughout the bird areas there were little cups of bird food for sale.  I did not buy any food or try to hold any birds.  I saw quite a few people trying to clean bird poop off their shirts and didn't want to be doing that myself. The colorful birds were amazing to look at, even without holding them.

I really like the waterlily pond! The roof reflection made some interesting patterns and there were many small fish in the pond.

Another interesting area

There were more birds outside.

The birds were gorgeous and I loved seeing the water lily pond. With so many birds, there was a ton of bird poop though.  The employees did their best to keep it cleaned up, but it was never ending. For that reason, one visit is probably enough for me.

What an amazing place. The waterlily pond is great as you can come very close and see the flowers in details.
There is also a grand selection of birds. I have heard of white peacocks but never seen one until now.
Thank you for sharing your adventures.

I honestly don't know what I love most here -- the waterlily pond is spectacular. And your photos really make it sing! But the birds! Wonderful shots of owls -- all the harder with the glass -- and those colorful ones are fabulous. The flowers too but they almost pale in comparison and that's hard to do with flowers! Four star!

What a fun place to visit xx

That looks terrific! I love the floral area, and what they say about it on their website, "Impatience of greenhouse is overwhelming". Looks like they got confused with "impatiens", which is what a lot of the plants seem to be.

Some amazingly coloured birds which I haven't seen before. I feel sorry for the tethered birds, though. A couple of them look like kookaburras which we have wild in the garden, so I don't like to see them tied up.

The lily display is wonderful. I like that you can view the fish through the side of the tank.

The first thing I did was to Google a conversion of yen to dollars. The entry charge is about what they charge at our local zoo. Of course the cost is relevant to what income is. You travel a lot so I suppose your salary is good or the cost of living is reasonable. Not asking, just thinking.

Anyway, this place would certainly interest ME as you might guess. The birds are spectacular. I loved seeing the side view of the lily pond. Our goldfish nibble on the roots of ours and the frogs lit on lily pads waiting for their next meal. It's all so relaxing and entertaining.

We never know where you will take us next.
xx, Carol

Such beautiful birds everywhere! Only the tethered ones don't look all that happy to me.
