Japan Post to End Saturday Delivery Next Year

I think the Japanese postal service is great. It's not so expensive. The items I receive are intact and not damaged.  If a package can't be delivered because I'm not home, I get a notice and can schedule redelivery for a later time online.  That's right - I don't have to go to the post office to pick it up.  The employees at the post office are always friendly and helpful.

I love getting real mail. I always have.  I don't get much here, but I do love it.

Because of a labor shortage in Japan, the Japan Post has announced that it will discontinue regular Saturday delivery sometime next year. Saturday delivery for packages, along with express and registered mail will continue.

What is the postal service like where you live? Is mail delivered on Saturday?  Are employees friendly and helpful?

Mail service works fine here in Rancho Palos Verdes, Ca.
People in this area have the most problems with Amazon delivery service, hopefully that gets straightened out.

Saturday mail delivery stopped years ago. Sadly our postal services have deteriorated quite significantly. I post mail and it could take 6-8 working days to arrive. Some of our post offices are still open on a Saturday at major shopping centres.

Sounds like ideal postal service. Ours is problematic like a lot of other things.

I've heard of cutting other Saturday deliveries. We still get ours, though. I really appreciate our postal people and system. They're really quite good.

No Saturday delivery here for many years, the local post shop lady is super helpful and the posture who delivers is great. I think in NZ they get delivery three days a week now so letters seem to take a long time to arrive.

Here in rural France we were only recently given road names and numbers. Before that we were just part of Le Bourg - the centre. Which meant that the postman/lady needed to know the names and location of everyone on their route. They will take post for you if it is stamped or you have the right money. When we first came they would bring prescriptions from the pharmacy for the elderly or infirm who could not get there. I am not sure if this is still the case though. When we are away then we ask for our post to be left with a friend along the road which is never any problem. Yes, we still get a Saturday delivery.

Mail service is crazy good where I live. UPS, USPS and Fed Ex are all competing to be better than Amazon Prime which has it's own delivery now.

The postal mail is pretty good and relatively inexpensive. I admit I rarely send real mail but I do send a package each month to California to my great grands. I remember how much I loved getting a package from an aunt I didn't even know back when I was about 6. It was the only one I ever got. I'm sure my mother did not make me send a thank you. I have always regretted that she didn't teach me or allow me to do that. I have made sure that my kids at least call to thank aunts for presents.
xx, Carol

Our postal service is very good. If a parcel arrives while I'm out the postie will leave it just behind the back gate, or, if it's raining in the garden shed.

Mailing differs greatly depending on carrier and region here in Germany. Regular mail is mostly delivered by Deutsche Post, and they have become a little sloppy lately, with letters in the same city often taking several days to arrive. There are a few private carriers too, but most of them only serve specific regions.
For parcels, there's DHL of course (which used to belong to Deutsche Post when it was still state-owned, but both of them are privately owned these days). They are great were I live, friendly and fast, but I've had friends in other cities who had parcels just vanish or being deposited in public places...then we have additional carriers, like UPS, DPD and Hermes. Their delivery drivers are often doing it on the side (and have a regular job during they day), so their delivery times are somewhat patchy. Which wouldn't be so much of a problem if amazon didn't just pick them seemingly it random - I've had them try and deliver parcels to my office at 6:30 am and 9 pm, unsuccessful of course since no one was in!
For DHL, I can just have them deliver to my 'Pack Station', which is kind of a machine where I can put in my card to pick up my parcels, which is the best thing ever.
All of them deliver on Saturdays, though.
