Work In Progress Wednesday - The Tale of Genji

New Start - I have finished some projects recently, so I decided to start a new project. This beautiful kit was a gift from Toki, who blogs at

私がめがねをかけるとき

The kit is made by Olympus and came with fabric, thread, needle, and color directions/chart. The scene is from chapter twenty-one of “The Tale of Genji” and depicts a day at the palace for Akikonomu, the lady who loves autumn. She is clad in a twelve layered garment and sits with a box lid filled with maple leaves in front of her. The original of this artwork is in the Museum of Art, Atami, Shizuoka Prefecture. The artist is Ogata Korin and the hanging scroll is 98.8 x 39.0 cm. This is how far I have stitched so far.

Thank you again for this gift, Toki.

Stitching a pictorial cross stitch is nice - you gradually see the picture grow.
It's a lovely gift from Toki-san.

A truely Japanese kit! I love how it came with full skeins of the colours. Great start!
