Japan is Missing an Island
It is a mystery. Japan is made up of many islands, including 158 uninhabited islands, and recently experts fear that one of them is missing. The tiny island, known as Esambe Hanakita Kojima, was officially surveyed and registered by the Japanese Coastguard in 1987. The island rose 1.4 meters (almost 5 feet) above sea level and was visible from the northern tip of Hokkaido. It is unknown whether the island was washed away or if earthquakes may have caused it to sink or if rising water levels due to global warming covered it or if some other thing caused it to disappear. What do you think happened to it?

That's bizarre but if it's global warming we're all in big trouble.
That is a strange one!!
In the recent earthquake of Hokkaido, landslides were the main disaster. My guess is that the island is made up of such soft material that it has collapsed in a tremor - from what I remember the news reported the SUDDEN disappears of the island.
Hi Pamela,oh its a worry when these things happen.
Eathquake? Possibly. Definitely water levels have risen. I was raised on Lake Michigan. I remember there being a lot of beach along the walkway out to the pier. Now the water is totally up to the walkway a few feet high. You would think that divers would have gone out to where the island was and see what's going on.

Well, I feel less bad now about losing my USB thumb-drive this week (I found it again, too!). At least I didn't lose a whole island!
Probably global warming! Can’t understand why some people can’t see it’s happening.
How scary!

I'd guess an earthquake! Not that I don't believe in global warming, I don't think it would have just disappeared overnight without other places in the area experiencing water level rise (unless they have?). How weird to just lose one!
How strange?
