Chop Sticks Day

Faux Holidays are so fun!  Today is Chopsticks Day.  Eight is Ha and four is Shi. (Eighth month, fourth day).

Even though I've been in Japan more than seven years, people are still amazed I can eat with chopsticks. Maybe handstiching all these years have built up my chopsticks muscles, or maybe eating with chopsticks is easier than it looks!

Haha. Most of Japanese people seldom have a chance to make friends with others coming from foreign countries. If you are able to speak some Japanese words and follow Japanese customs, they are astonished at your knowledge of this country.
It's so hot now, be careful not to become "干物 himono".

There's a DAY for everything, isn't there. My grandson and him family are adept at using chopsticks. I can't get the hang of using them, but I admit I have not tried too hard to do so.

It's still chopsticks day here! I had no idea. Lots of Americans can eat with chopsticks, though a lot of us do it in a childish way. Stir-fried food actually tastes different, as I am sure you know, if you pick up the pieces one at a time and eat them individually instead of spearing several on a fork. However, I once asked for a fork and knife to eat some shrimp in the shell (which I know how to do) and a whole room full of Hong Kong Chinese people stared at me, and some said they didn't know there was anything you could do with a fork that you couldn't do with chopsticks! They used their fingers to peel and eat them.

Happy belated chopsticks day!

I've been able to eat with chopsticks for a long time now. When I first left home in my early 20s one of the people I shared a house with insisted that I learn. I'm glad she did because it is a good skill to have. I own sets of both Japanese and Chinese chopsticks which I use regularly.

I never found chopsticks hard to use, to maybe you are right and all these years of stitching and knitting have been good training!

I love using chopsticks but I still have some challenges with noodles!
