17 in 2017 - December Report

This month I finished my Smalls Stitch A Long.

I also worked on my Kogin Bag project.

2017 Smalls Stitch A Long - December

This year I planned to stitch the calendar cats for the Smalls Stitch A Long (free charts at Happiness is Cross Stitching).  This month is December and the project finish. Originally I planned to make individual ornaments, but as the months went by, I decided I like how they looked together.  The backing, sleeve, and binding are all the same cat fabric.  I had three Mill Hill black cat buttons, so I added those and a few hexagon cats.  I like it.

This week I put 3 more lengths of thread in the Kogin Bag.

17 in 2017 - November Report

Not a lot of progress this month, and only one more month until the end of the year.  

I did work on the kogin piece and like how it is coming along.

2017 Smalls Stitch A Long - November

This year I plan to stitch the calendar cats (free charts at Happiness is Cross Stitching).  One small ornament per month, so this month is November.  I will wait to finish them all at the same time in December so that they will be the same size and somehow coordinate.

Work In Progress Wednesday - Kogin Progress

I worked on the kogin project quite a bit this week, although it's hard to tell.  It looks like it did the last time I posted.

This week I worked on the pocket.

I also put one length of thread in the kogin bag.

These are 17 in 2017 projects. 

It doesn't seem like I stitched much, but that's because I was out and about all weekend doing other things!  I hope to have more to show next week.

Has a week gone by already?  

Two more lengths of thread on the Kogin project.

A little more on the pocket, plus getting the canvas ready on the purse, but not actually stitching anything on it.

These are 17 in 2017 projects.  

This week I also made up a small kogin panel, using Needle Necessities Pearl 5, which I will make into a gift.  I like the small color changes in this thread. 

The pattern for this and my kogin bag project (above) come from this Japanese book.

17 in 2017 - October Report

I'm pleased with my progress this month!  

The Mystery Quilt's top is finished and the backing pieced.

The October cat is stitched.

I worked on the Kogin bag.

I made more petals for the pansy stumpwork piece.

I also worked on the paisley pocket.

When I took a picture, I realized the lettering for October doesn't match the lettering for the other months.  I don't know why - ?

Work In Progress Wednesday - A Little More on Several

I had another good week working on several projects, a little on each.  

I have now finished the ten petals on the stumpwork project. Next I will get back to the butterfly.  I started one and didn't like it, so I started another one and don't like it either. Do pansies really need a butterfly?

I did two more lengths of thread on the kogin project.  

I also worked on the paisley pocket.  I really want to start working on the real paisley purse. Should I start it before I finish the pocket?  I'm so much better at starting things than finishing.

Work In Progress Wednesday - Little by Little

I stitched two lengths of thread on the Kogin project this week.

I made one new petal on the pansy stumpwork project. 

I pieced the back for the Midnight Mystery Quilt - seven cat fabrics.

I worked on the paisley pocket quite a bit. This might be finished into an ornament.  (I have an idea.)

Work In Progress Wednesday - Just A Few More Stitches

With only about ten or eleven weeks left in the year, I won't be finishing all of my 17 in 2017 projects in the year 2017.  I'm already planning to make my list of 18 in 2018, rolling over my unfinished projects from this year.

This week, I added two thread lengths to the kogin bag.  

I made one more pansy petal for the stumpwork project. The dark purple and dark yellow one on the right is the new one.

I pulled out the paisley purse for the first time since I've been in Japan and stitched on it for a few hours.  I took this class of Deborah Forney's in February 2009 in Raleigh, NC and I don't know if I worked on it again after the class. The class consisted of two parts, the pocket and the actual purse. The pocket could be made into a small pouch or a pocket on something else.  I think I will continue working on the pocket before I start working on the purse.  

Not a lot of progress, but still progress.  These are all 17 in 2017 projects.

Work In Progress Wednesday - Finished Midnight Mystery Quilt Top

It was hard to get a photo in my tiny apartment, but here it is - the finished Midnight Mystery Quilt Top from 2015.  I like how it turned out!

I don't know when I will actually get it finished into a quilt, but this is good for now.  This is one of my 17 in 2017 projects.

Work In Progress Wednesday - Midnight Mystery Quilt Blocks

I followed the next set of instructions and have the individual blocks pieced.  All of my blocks are different. (I should have pressed the seams before taking photos.)  The more I look at these blocks, the more I like them.

Just one more set of instructions!  Maybe by next week, I'll have the completed quilt top.  We'll see.  The directions for this quilt can be found on Cheryl's Meadow Mist Designs blog.  

I did finally go back to the Janome Shop and was able to buy a walking foot for my machine.  I still don't have the hang of it yet and need to "unstitch" some puckered areas. I don't consider this to be any progress on this quilt.
