Sumpu Castle Excavation

Yesterday was a bit of a rainy day, but not a downpour rainy day.  I visited Sumpu Castle Park and it was perfect because there were few people around. The excavation began several years ago, but because of the pandemic, I hadn't been back to check out what they were doing.

Much of the signage and information is in English.

The blue area on this sign is the excavation area.

It is a pretty park, even on a rainy day at the end of the cherry blossom season.

There is a pathway to walk around the excavation area. The pathway can be closed off - I supposed to keep people out at night or something like that.

I don't want to go to any place that is crowded, so this was a great way to spend the morning.  I saw very few people and the park is quite large, so it was a very safe trip. The excavation area is interesting.

My friend just started her own online English School. If you (and/or someone you know) are interested in improving your English skills, please check out her website (link below).  She has years of English teaching experience and can help you reach your language goals.

Mayumi Shimizu, a part-time English teacher at two private universities in Japan opened her own online English school. The first class she offers is TOEIC target 600 course. Here is the link for her homepage.

Friday Finish - Ukrainian Embroidery Tote

I made the Ukrainian embroidery into a tote, with a Japanese pattern for the handles. I'm pleased with how it turned out.

The chart for the Ukrainian embroidery can be found here.

Japanese Prince Enters High School

Prince Hisahito, nephew of the Japanese Emperor and second in line to the Imperial throne, attended the entrance ceremony of his new school, the University of Tsukuba's Senior High School at Otsuka in Tokyo.  He was accompanied by his parents, the Crown Prince and Crown Princess.

Three years ago, he was in the news as he attended the entrance ceremony of Ochanomizu Junior High School.

Prince Hisahito is the third and youngest child of the Crown Prince and Crown Princess.

In Japan, elementary school is six years, junior high school is three years, and high school is three years. My students tell me that schools in our area are only allowing one family member to attend the entrance ceremony with the student, in order to keep the required distance between people to prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

I never attended a school that had an entrance ceremony, but it seems that all schools in Japan have them.

Sunday Stitch Group - Dorset Buttons

It was the first time we met since December.  Long time no see!

First there was some show and tell.

We started a new project - dorset buttons.

I forgot to take photos of the buttons in progess, but we will continue making buttons next month.

So many treats!  We all enjoyed the fortunes in the fortune cookies.
