New Zealand Immigrant Society and Hong Kong Culture through Cooking and Discussion

Saturday, Ted and I attended a cooking class led by local English teacher, Edwin, from New Zealand.  His family moved from Hong Kong in 1997, when he was still very young.

We’ve attended other cooking classes here – Vietnamese cooking with Chi, Sushi making, and Cooking with Audi.   I’m not so interested in cooking (although I did make sushi after that class), but the social aspect of the classes is fun.

Before the cooking started, Edwin gave a short talk about emigration to New Zealand and Chi talked about the possibility of the Paralympic athletes for the 2020 Tokyo competition training in our town at the University.

Everyone was assigned a cooking group and Edwin gave us instruction from the front cooking area.

Everything was well organized, with each group having what they needed to prepare the three dishes at their cooking area, and each person getting  a little cookbook.

We made Spicy Radish with Pork, Stir Fried Squid with Oyster Sauce, and Steamed Egg Dessert and ate the delicious food after preparing it.

We had fun and made some great food.  Thanks, Edwin!

It's awesome to see young kids participating as well.

Yom!!! That looks like fun. But then I love to cook. Wish I didn't like eating too.

Fancy that! I am pleased you were able to enjoy the cooking and the company. The traditional roast lamb of New Zealand might have taken too long and not been so suitable for all the participants.

It must have been a fun experience.
