Scouts at the Station
Last week I saw these seven scouts in full uniforms at the train station. I talked with them a little bit. They told me they were traveling alone (no adults) to Gotemba. I didn't understand what exactly they were doing. I told them I had been a scout in the US when I was young. In Japan it is common to see children walking to school or traveling by train on their own. I like living where it is so safe.

The Japanese are very fond of group activities, uniforms and rules. Scouting fosters many fine qualities and comradeship.
