Mt. Whitfield Conservation Park Hike
Mt. Whitfield Conservation Park is located next to the Botanical Gardens. Two days after I visited the Garden Park, I returned to hike on these trails. I hiked the red trail and the blue trail. Starting out on the red was fairly easy. It was paved and the uphill part was regular steps.
There were signs at various points to show you where you were.
As the trail climbed, there were nice views. I didn't know I was so close to the airport.
After this look out point, I continued on the blue trail, which was more of a trail than a walkway.
I often heard these little brown birds before I saw them because they scratch at the leaves. Maybe they were looking for some lunch?
This is the view from Lumley Hill.
I was very excited (and maybe a little scared) to see this big lizardy thing near the trail I think it is a monitor. It was hard to get a picture of it because it was crawling.
I saw quite a few of these turkeys. The head and neck are so bright that they stand out.
Back on the red trail and going down.

I know what you mean with the lizard. Hard to hit a moving target. I really think this is beautiful but some of those roots could make for tricky climbing! Glad you made it without incident other than joy!

Another beautiful place to visit. It is scary when you see the lizard tail or body, but once you see legs the blood pressure goes back down!! :-)
Some parts of the path seem dangerous. Please be careful not to fall down. I wish you a happy travel.
Wow, that looks like a terrific place. You were adventurous tackling two of the hikes. The views from the lookouts are great, and it is fantastic that you got to see some interesting wildlife.
The brown bird scratching in the leaf-litter is an orange-footed scrubfowl. Probably was looking for dinner, because they eat insects, fallen fruit and seeds that they find on the ground.
The turkey-like bird is an Australian brush-turkey. They are not actually related to domestic turkeys, though.
The big lizard looks like a lace monitor. They can grow up to 2 metres long but they are considered harmless. It would be amazing to see one in the wild like that. I've only seen them in zoos.
Great hike and wonderful nature finds! The yellow path looks very....adventurous from the map, I can see why you did the other two instead!
A great hike Pamela and thank you for sharing. I like the idea of the map to let you know every so often just where you are, if not it looks easy to get lost.
Well done doing both the hikes. Not keen on the lizard.
Ah, I like paths through the woods! Apart from the maps, are the trails blazed at all (little blue marks on trees for example)?
