Kogin Four Seasons progress - I worked more on the summer section.

Last week, Lyn commented that she thought the 1 chi thread might be like floche. I don't stitch with floche often enough to know, but I did have a project using floche, so I pulled it out to compare. The floche is a thinner smoother thread. The 1 chi is thicker and rather rough.
Summertime Mt. Fuji progress
This project is very fun for me. Mt. Fuji's 25 connected/related sites were recognized in 2013 by UNESCO as a cultural World Heritage site. I am depicting the mountain and a few of the other sites in this piece.

I finished Spring and started Summer. The colors for summer are light blue and orange, with blue and yellow for complementing colors. (If you have the book, the pattern is A1 on page 90. )
For the main colors of light blue and orange, I am using this "1 chi" Japanese thread.

I worked on the Spring section this week. If you are curious, my fabric is about 23 inches by 16 inches. The space for each season is about 4.5 inches by 16 inches, with the remaining space at the top and bottom for the dowels needed to hang the piece after it is finished.
I will start the Summer section before next week’s post.
Summertime Mt. Fuji progress - This week I worked on Sengen Taisha Shrine and the pine tree (Miho no Matsubara). I also made a Torii at the top of Mt. Fuji. It looks very small because it is so far away, but it is really very large when you see it in person.

Kogin Four Seasons progress - Spring Section
I stitched the first part with the Olympus variegated green. The other chosen colors are purple, pink, and yellow. I’m using solid yellow, solid purple, and a variegated pink to purple, all Olympus threads.

Summertime Mt. Fuji progress - I finished the wispy clouds (I think) and added a few sequins to the mountain to try to give the mountain some depth. The brown pinned thing will be a pine tree (Miho no Matsubara) and the orange pinned square will be Sengen Taisha Shrine. All of these sites are part of the Mt. Fuji UNESCO designation.

New start - Kogin Stitch A Long
I’m really excited about this new project. Toki, who blogs at 私がめがねをかけるとき, and I have agreed to each stitch a kogin piece. (She blogs in Japanese, but there is a translation button on the top left under the title, if you don’t read Japanese.)
We are working on patterns from this book, which is available from Amazon. Since this is a Japanese stitching technique, Toki suggested we use the Japanese theme of the Four Seasons. She chose four patterns from this book and chose main and supporting colors for us. Each of the patterns have two variations to choose from and we will also each decide on our own threads. The finished project will be a wall hanging.
I am stitching from stash and not buying new materials in an attempt to downsize what I have. This piece of green kogin fabric is the right size for a set of wooden dowels I have, so that’s perfect. I will use a mixture of kogin threads and sashiko threads and have all the colors I need, so that is also good. I basted the fabric to divide the fabric sections for the four seasons and the top and bottom dowels. I have begun the Spring section with a variegated green sashiko thread from Olympus, and plan to have more to show next week. If you have this book, the chart for the spring design is C1 on page 92.
Christmas Treasures afghan progress
I completed three more squares, leaving two more plus the fringing to completely finish the afghan.
I am really liking my new stitch group project. This week I added the summertime Mt. Fuji and am now couching down some thread/string stuff to be some wispy clouds. This is the Shizuoka view of Mt. Fuji, showing the Hoei Crater on the right, in case you are wondering.
