Big Tokyo Weekend - Quilt Show #7 Wa Quilts

I'm not sure what the rules are to be included in the "Wa" category, but I think it is using either Japanese fabrics, Japanese subject matter, or Japanese techniques in the quilt.  Can anyone tell me if that is true? These were my favorites in the show.

Yes, I think you need either Japanese fabric, motif or pattern to enter into the Wa category.
What strikes me is that these quilts often have LIGHT. Especially the quilts made with indigo dye fabric play on the light and dark shades. You can see the sun shine, the mist in the mountains, the reflections on water....

Oh wow, each quilt is amazing, Pamela!
I do love the last one, the dragons look great & I can make out some of the quilting detail too... also, the 2nd image (with a '2' in the top corner) is quite striking.
Thank you for those great pics!

Very beautiful quilts. I see what Queenie means in saying that these quilts have 'light' or contrast. It makes them come to life.

I have been following your post of the Quilt Festival from the beginning. Such great quilts that you show in your pictures. The ones in this post are no exception - particularly the first.
